Automated Intelligence/ANTS
ANTS is an interdisciplinary performance work combining music, movement, live electronics, video improvisation, and percussion. Human and machine‑generated patterns intersect, exploring systems, technology, and collective behaviour through algorithmic structures and live interaction.
Alice and Deanne responded choreographically to six of Andrew’s compositions titled ANTS — a series of systematic melodies generated by the cellular automaton Langton’s Ant and performed on both conventional and unconventional percussion instruments. The choreographic responses ranged from close musical synchrony — mirroring tempo, rhythm, and spatial qualities — to compositional counterpoints that created layered, parallel perceptual experiences.
